What To Expect With Your Maternity Photoshoot
Hey there, Mama-to-be! Congratulations on your pregnancy! I’m so excited you’re considering maternity photography, this is such a special moment in your life, and I’m honored to help capture it.
Initial Consultation
The first step is a quick consultation call to go over your vision. One of the biggest decisions is whether you’d like a studio session or an outdoor shoot.
Studio sessions are private, air-conditioned, and allow for full control of lighting and backdrops. These are perfect if you want something clean, timeless, or glam. Many of my studio moms love having access to a full mirror, changing area, and a relaxed space to take breaks if needed.
Outdoor sessions are ideal if you love nature, warm lighting, and more movement in your photos. Parks, gardens, or golden hour fields give your gallery a dreamy, natural feel.
We’ll also chat about your outfits, the vibe you’re going for, and who you’d like to include (partner, kids, pets, even your mom!). I once had a client include her mother for a generational photo, it was such a sweet and meaningful addition.
This call is also the perfect time to ask questions and get styling help!
Scheduling the Shoot
The best time to schedule your session is between 28 and 34 weeks. By then, your belly has a beautiful round shape, but you’re still comfortable enough to move and pose.
If you’re having twins (or just feel like baby is growing fast!), we’ll aim to book a little earlier. Either way, I’ll help you pick a date that gives us enough time and flexibility.
Choosing Your Wardrobe
This is where things get fun!
You’ll want to bring two outfits: One dressy, one casual. Most of my moms wear a flowing or fitted gown first, then change into something more laidback for variety.
A few quick tips:
- Wear nude or neutral undergarments to avoid anything showing through
- Go barefoot for dresses that cover your feet, or pick stylish shoes you can stand in comfortably
- Keep jewelry simple, and be sure to remove your smartwatch, it tends to stand out in photos
Need help deciding? I’ll guide you through it all during our prep call.
The Photoshoot Day
Sessions usually last about an hour. When you arrive, you don’t need to know how to pose or worry about anything. I’ll guide you through each shot and help you feel relaxed and confident the whole time.
One of my favorite sessions was with a mom who came in shy, worries her bump was too small to photograph. But by the end, she was glowing and the final images were some of the most beautiful and genuine moments I’ve ever captured.
Trust me: once we get started, it all comes together naturally.
After the Shoot
Right after your session, you’ll get to view and select your favorite photos. This helps speed up the process so your edited images can be delivered within 7 to 10 business days.
Once they’re ready, you’ll receive a private online gallery to download your final images. If you ordered any albums, canvases, or frames, you’ll be notified when they’re ready for pickup at the studio.
Final Thoughts
Your maternity photos aren’t just about getting pretty pictures, they’re about celebrating this beautiful, once in a lifetime moment. And I’m here to make sure you feel seen, supported, and absolutely radiant every step of the way.
I can’t wait to help you create something timeless.
