How To Prepare For Your Photoshoot?

Whether it is your first time shooting with a professional or you consider yourself to be a pro, we all want our images to come out amazing. If you’re anything like me, you’re stressing about what to wear, how to pose, and/or you’re worried about appearing awkward. To help ease my own anxiety, I created a cheklist and here are some of my tips for being “photoshoot day ready”!

  1. Just Do You

Easier said than done, right? Naturally you’ve seen images on Instagram, Pinterest, Google, and Youtube that lend themselves to ideas of what we want our photos to look like, but I always tell my clients and myself that they are just that. Inspiration. What I have learned being on both sides of the camera, is that the best photos are the ones where you are simply just being yourself. For instance, I know that I am a bit awkward in the beginning of my shoots and that awkwardness makes me laugh and smile a lot. Knowing this about myself, I would not want to plan a photoshoot where all I am doing is being serious, we would never get the shot. Trust who you are as a person and embrace the moment.

  2. Wear What Makes You Feel Best

When I was in college, I dressed up on days I had exams. So even when I was not feeling the most prepared, I still looked the part and eventually my mind got on the same page. Tega, what does that have to do with my shoot? Honestly, everything. It is essential that you wear something that makes you feel amazing, comfortable, and confident. After all, the camera sees everything! Still do you as you pick your outfit too.

  3. Treat yourself, You Deserve It

When I say treat yourself, I am talking about doing the things that make you feel your best and make the most out of an experience! This will help you to get into the right mindset for your session. For me, that looks like putting a nice outfit together, getting a fresh haircut, and smelling good. These things make me feel my best and allow me to be confident for meetings, presentations, and anything that requires confidence.

  4. Trust Your Photographer

Being stressed about your photoshoot and not knowing what to expect is normal. I want to remind you as a photographer, we want you to absolutely love your photos. From coming up with poses and making sure your hair is not all over the place, we are looking to make sure that not only do you feel amazing, but you look amazing. So, if that means I pose with you, show you what to do with your hands, or simply letting you know if you have something in your teeth I am going to do it. Remember, you picked your photographer for a reason, all you need to do is trust that they will do exactly that.

You might notice that through out this article I stressed, no pun intended, that you should be yourself and do what makes you comfortable, confident, and amazing. This is the secret formula to getting the best photos!
